The Ebola outbreak is getting worse in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It has spread to Uganda. This is bad news. The World Health Organization says it is a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. They said this on May 17 2026.
The health people are trying to stop the virus. But it is hard because there is fighting people are. The healthcare system is not good. The people in charge are worried that there are cases than they know about.
As of May 19-20 2026 there are over 500 suspected cases of Ebola and than 130 deaths. Most of these cases are in Ituri Province in Democratic Republic of the Congo. The numbers are going up fast. In the 48 hours there have been many new cases.. The laboratory tests are not keeping up. They have only confirmed around 30-34 cases far.
The Bundibugyo Ebola strain is a problem. There are no vaccines or special medicines for it. So the health workers have to use methods like finding people who were in contact with sick people isolating them and giving them supportive care. The World Health Organization and its partners are sending test kits and protective equipment to the area. They are also looking for vaccines.
The Ebola outbreak has already spread to Uganda. There have been cases in Kampala, Uganda. These people had been to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There are also suspected cases in parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This is making people worried that the outbreak will spread to areas. An American healthcare worker got sick. Has been taken to another country for treatment.
