However, there have been instances in which students have encountered derision and discrimination from their peers as well as difficulty managing the burden and expectations of the programme. Furthermore, the GEP has been criticized for the promotion of elitism, as GEP students frequently engaged in exclusive interactions with one another and faced difficulties in establishing connections with their non-GEP peers.

This programme has ultimately been gradually expanded at the primary and secondary levels. Because of the incorporation of the integrated programme at the post-college level, the gifted education programme has undergone modifications.
